Welcome to Icare Home Daycare

Icare-Love, Sunshine&Broccolie…all Blended Together!

Our Mission

We believe childhood should be filled with love, sunshine, stories, muddy shoes, healthy meals full of fruits and vegetables, meaningful friendships, and endless opportunities to wonder.

More than a name, Icare represents a community where families and educators partner together with trust, respect, and compassion.
A timeless proverb sums it all “It takes a village to raise a child.”

Our mission is to create a warm, home-like environment where every hug, every story, every outdoor adventure, and every homemade meal helps children grow into confident, kind, and lifelong learners

“Growing curious minds, kind hearts, and lifelong learners.”

"Icare Might Be the Perfect Fit If…"

You don't mind muddy shoes: you believe some of the best childhood learning happens outdoor, through puddles, parks, nature, and real life adventures.

You believe children should spend their days reading, exploring, and creating—not in front of screens.

You prefer a small, close-knit setting where your child is truly known, loved, and understood.

You value fresh, homemade meals and healthy habits beginning early.

You believe childhood should be joyful, unhurried, and full of wonder.

You want your child to spend days in a warm, sun-filled, natural enviroment that feels more like a second home than a commercial space.

Why Families Choose Icare

Outdoor Every Day

Parks, puddles, mud, fresh air, movement, and real-world exploration are part of childhood here.

A Love of Reading

Children enjoy over 60 minutes of reading every day, along with regular visits to the Merlo Chicago Public Library, where CTA ride is the most exciting part of a visit and a lifelong love of books begins.

Real Food for Growing Bodies

Fresh, homemade organic meals and snacks are prepared with wholesome, clean label ingredients. We never use artificial colors, hydrogenated oils, highly processed foods, and excess added sugars,

We believe healthy eating habits begin in early childhood and fuel both growing bodies and curious minds.

Relationships Over Apps

Instead of teachers spending the day on phones entering app updates, they’re fully present with the children. At pick-up, we value genuine face-to-face conversations, sharing your child’s day, celebrating milestones, and answering questions personally. We believe no app can replace a meaningful relationship between families and teachers.

Yoga

Yes-we all do yoga! As a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-500), Biljana has been teaching children and adults throughout the Chicago community for over seven years, leading classes at Gallagher Way every Tuesday at 7AM, neighborhood parks, and yoga studios across Chicago. Through age-appropriate yoga, breathing exercises, and mindfulness activities, children develop balance, coordination, body awareness, self-confidence, and emotional regulation—all while having fun!

Learning Through Wonder

Inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy, children learn through play, exploration, open-ended materials, and projects based on their interests rather than worksheets.

Growing Global Citizens

Children are introduced to Spanish through songs, stories, and everyday conversations, helping them appreciate different languages and cultures from an early age.

Screen-Free Childhood

More time for Play, Conversation, Movement, Creativity, and Imagination.

Our Neighborhood is Part of Our Classroom

Once the weather warms up, we enjoy monthly field trips to favorite Chicago spots like Merlo library, Lincoln Park Zoo, the Nature Museum, Horner Park, Wrigley Field-Gallagher Way, and many more.

Small Group Big Connection

With small group sizes and lasting relationships, every child and family is known, celebrated, and loved!

Reggio Inspired Learning

We believe childhood should not be rushed. We make time for one more story, one more question, one more hug, and one more mess!

Growing Together in a Mixed-Age Community

Unlike traditional childcare programs that separate children strictly by age, Icare embraces a mixed-age learning environment where children grow together as a community.

Research shows that mixed-age environments naturally encourage:

Empathy and compassion through caring for younger friends.

Leadership and confidence as older children model skills and behaviors.

Cooperation, patience, and problem-solving during everyday interactions.

This philosophy closely aligns with the work of Maria Montessori, who intentionally designed mixed-age classrooms to encourage peer learning, independence, and leadership. It also reflects the values of the Reggio Emilia approach, which views children as capable learners who construct knowledge through relationships, collaboration, and shared experiences.

Welcome to the Hive

At Icare, our mixed-age community is like a thriving hive, where every child has a unique place and every stage of development is celebrated. Younger children learn by watching older friends, while older children develop empathy, confidence, and leadership by helping those who are younger. Together, we create a caring community where children grow through relationships, curiosity, and joyful discovery.

The Values We Hope Children Carry for Life

Long after children leave Icare, we hope they remember how it felt to be here.

Every day, we nurture confidence, creativity, c ompassion, resilience, respect, and a lifelong love of learning.

Because caring for children isn’t simply what we do – it’s who we are.

Oue Weekly Activities

A Gentle Rhythm to Every Day with Intention

Children thrive when they know what to expect—but they also need the freedom to follow their curiosity.Children thrive when they know what to expect—but they also need the freedom to follow their curiosity.

A predictable routine gives children confidence; unhurried moments give them room to grow. We keep our activities as planned as scheduled; however, children are offered choices and plenty of solitary play-explore time. We keep our activities as planned as scheduled; however, children are offered choices and plenty of solitary play-explore time.
This refer to the Development of the Whole Child.

Some mornings begin with stories under a Sun. Others begin with collecting leaves, building towers, dancing in the living room, water splash, or watching bugs but always fallowed by Circle Time at 9AM!

At Icare, we create a rhythm that balances adventure and rest, curiosity and comfort, movement and quiet moments.

Music That Fills Our Home

Music isn’t a class we attend—it’s part of who we are.
Music is completely integrated into the Icare curriculum.
We Love to Dance, Skip and Sing!

You’ll hear singing while we clean up, piano during the circle time, dancing while lunch is being prepared, classical music melodies during rest time, and joyful laughter as little feet skip across the room during the dance class.

Music helps us celebrate, connect, express our feelings, and create memories that stay with children long after the song has ended.

Celebrating Many Languages, Many Stories

Every family brings a unique story, and every culture adds something beautiful to our community.

Through Spanish songs, books, games, and everyday conversations, children are introduced to another language in a playful and natural way.

More importantly, they grow up learning that different languages, traditions, and cultures are something to celebrate.

Here, every child belongs, and every family’s story matters.

Love, Sunshine, Broccoli… All Blended Together!

We believe healthy eating begins with joyful experiences around the table. We provide delicious (you’ll wish you could eat here too) all organic food and organic snacks.

Our home-cooked meals are prepared with fresh, simple&seasonal ingredients, and whenever possible, organic choices.

Additional Eating AL FRESCO (in the open air) is a Joy!

Whenever the weather invites us outside, we bring our meals into nature—because somehow strawberries taste even sweeter under the open sky.

Growing Yogic Minds and Confident Hearts

Yoga at Icare isn’t about perfect poses.

It’s about learning to breathe through big feelings, stretching growing bodies, slowing busy minds, and discovering moments of calm in a busy world.

Through movement, mindfulness, stories, and playful breathing exercises, children build confidence, resilience, body awareness, and kindness toward themselves and others.

Yoga will help Children to Grow Stronger, more Flexible and Fearless, both on and off the mat!

Nature Is Our Favorite Classroom

We believe childhood is meant to be lived outdoors.

Every day, we spend as much time outside as the weather allows, because fresh air, movement, and nature provide children with something no classroom can fully replace. Time outdoors helps children build strong bodies, calm busy minds, improve focus, and develop a lifelong appreciation for the world around them.

You’ll often find us splashing through puddles, watching butterflies, listening to birds, running across open fields, collecting treasures from nature, or simply reading a story beneath the shade of a tree. These everyday adventures spark curiosity, encourage imagination, and remind us to slow down and notice the little wonders all around us.

At Icare, the outdoors isn’t a break from learning—it’s where some of our most meaningful learning begins.

Our Team

At Icare, we believe that great teachers don’t simply teach – they observe, listen, inspire, and build meaningful relationships.

Every child arrives with unique strengths, interests, and ways of learning. By carefully observing their curiosity, listening to their questions, and celebrating their discoveries, we create experiences that are meaningful and personal.

Inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy, our environment becomes the “third teacher,” thoughtfully prepared to encourage exploration.

More importantly, we believe children learn best when they feel deeply loved, respected, and understood.

How Did We Get Here?

Every generation has asked the same question:

“How do children learn best?”

For more than 2,000 years, great thinkers, philosophers, and educators have searched for that answer. While their words were written centuries ago, their wisdom continues to inspire the way we care for children today.

At Icare, we are honored to carry a small piece of that legacy forward.
